What is a Right to Work check?
A Right to Work check is a legal requirement that protects both the employer and the worker.
How checks are completed
- Home Office online service. Many workers use a share code to prove their status.
- Original documents. Some statuses and employer processes require a manual document check.
UK citizens
UK citizens do not use a Home Office share code. Their check usually uses a UK passport or other acceptable documents. Some employers use a digital identity service for UK and Irish passport holders instead of a manual check.
